U.S. President Donald Trump has given Iran a strict two-week deadline to de-escalate rising tensions or face potential U.S. airstrikes.
His latest comments have sparked global concern as military and diplomatic stakes rise across the Middle East.
Speaking to reporters on Friday, June 20, Trump stated, “I’m giving them a period of time, and I would say two weeks would be the maximum.”
He added that the decision could even be made earlier if Iran fails to meet expectations.
“The goal is to see whether or not people come to their senses,” he continued, leaving no room for ambiguity.
Trump’s stern warning comes just a day after he hinted at a possible window for negotiations, suggesting a chance that diplomacy could prevail.
However, the president’s tone has since shifted.
He now appears more skeptical about diplomatic efforts, particularly those involving European leaders.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Minister met with diplomats from the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and the European Union in Geneva on Friday.
The gathering aimed to reduce regional friction and avoid escalation, but Trump cast doubt on the outcome.
“I’m not inclined to stop Israel. They’re winning,”he said, signaling support for Israel’s aggressive military campaign.
Furthermore, Israel’s strikes on Iranian sites in recent weeks, combined with Iran’s retaliatory missile launches, have pushed the situation to a boiling point.
European leaders are pushing for calm, but Trump’s declaration could sideline these initiatives.
“There’s a substantial chance of negotiations,” Trump had said earlier, but his most recent remarks reveal a growing frustration with what he views as ineffective talks.
