Lagosians are anxious to resume work today especially Civil Servants. There hope might have been bashed as the executive governor of the state, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has made fresh announcement. The governor said yesterday said in spite of easing the lockdown today, civil servants should continue to stay at home, while those on level 15 and above should resume as from Tuesday, May 5 (tomorrow). He also said construction and manufacturing companies would be allowed to operate between 9am and 6am, but they should get waiver permission from the state government. Governor Sanwo-Olu, who spoke at a media briefing to provide an update on government’s efforts to contain COVID-19, said affected civil servants on levels 15 and above resident in Ogun State should obey Governor Dapo Abiodun’s directives till May 9, 2020. He also added, markets in which food items are sold should open on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays while other markets that do not sell food items are to open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Banks would be allowed to open with strict observance of all rules on hygiene and social distancing, just as they should ensure that their Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) are sanitised and provide means of transport for their staff members.
The governor said eateries and restaurants would be allowed to operate between 9am and 7pm, due to the ongoing Ramadan fasting, but they would only provide take-away packs and orders with eat-in services, while commercial transportation would operate from 6am to 7pm but must convey only 60 per cent carrying capacity, while employees of local government and local council development area offices should remain at home, unless otherwise by their chairmen.
Among other directives, he stated, “We encourage banks and other financial institutions to open and offer full complement of services to members of the public, but they must ensure that they comply with all directives on maximum office capacity and physical distancing. Companies that has to operate outside the hours of 9am-6pm should obtain waiver from the state government. “The issuance of waivers will be conditional upon a firm commitment from the applying Company that it will make adequate and complete arrangements for transportation of their staff members.“ All places of worship are to remain closed to congregational services, until further notice. This prohibition applies also to religious gatherings that may be conducted in homes, such as communal Tarawih prayers, or house fellowships. “All schools from primary, secondary and tertiary levels, remain closed, while proprietors of private schools, parents and guardians are encouraged to dialogue regarding on delivery of education through various online and digital, and importantly, the cost implications.”
