One person has been confirmed dead, and three others seriously injured, following the collapse of a one-storey building under construction in Lagos.
The tragic incident occurred on Sunday afternoon, May 18, at 96 Ishaga Road, directly opposite the Idi Araba Central Mosque.
The sad event has once again raised concerns about construction safety and the need for solid building practices.
According to the coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Lagos Territorial Office, Ibrahim Farinloye, rescue efforts were quickly mobilized after the building came crashing down.
He said, “So far, one person has been confirmed dead, while three others have been rescued alive. Search and rescue operations are ongoing.”

The unfortunate building collapse has reminded many of the constant dangers associated with poor construction and lack of proper supervision at building sites.
Therefore, it is important for developers and builders to always ensure safety measures are followed strictly.
These included the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Isolo Fire Station of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps, the Lagos State Ambulance Service, and the Nigeria Police.
Furthermore, the cause of the building collapse is still unknown.
Investigations are currently underway to determine the reason for the structural failure.
