Gov Fubara Pushes for 2025 Budget Presentation, Proposes Fresh Date

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has once again reached out to the State House of Assembly, proposing March 19 at 11:00 a.m. or any other convenient time for the presentation of the 2025 budget.

This follows an unsuccessful attempt on March 12, when the governor was reportedly denied access to the Assembly complex.

In a letter addressed to Speaker Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhule, Fubara reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring the budget presentation takes place in accordance with legal and constitutional provisions.

Governor Fubara referenced a recent Supreme Court ruling, which he stated had directed the Assembly to operate within the boundaries of the law.

He reminded the Speaker of the House’s 48-hour ultimatum for the budget presentation, which was issued even before he had received the certified true copy of the judgment and enrolled orders.

Moreover, Fubara called for all government institutions to conduct their responsibilities in a manner that prioritizes the welfare of the people.

“No matter the depth of our differences, we believe the interests of the state and our people should take priority over political conflicts,” he stated.

The failure of the initial budget presentation highlighted the ongoing political disagreements, with observers noting that the Supreme Court ruling is expected to shape the future dynamics of governance in Rivers State.

Furthermore, the governor’s insistence on presenting the budget as scheduled signals his commitment to upholding transparency and accountability in governance.

The budget presentation remains a critical event for the state, as it outlines plans for economic growth, infrastructure, and social welfare initiatives.

Therefore, the cooperation of all arms of government is essential to achieving the state’s development goals.

As the proposed date approaches, all eyes will be on the Rivers State House of Assembly to see how it responds to the governor’s renewed request.
