Rivers APC Chairman Gives Governor Fubara 48-Hour Ultimatum to Resign or Face Impeachment

The political crisis in Rivers State has deepened as the chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Tony Okocha, has called on Governor Siminalayi Fubara to resign within 48 hours or face impeachment by the State House of Assembly.

Okocha, while addressing journalists in Port Harcourt on Monday, March 10, stated that the governor had disrespected President Bola Tinubu by rejecting his efforts to mediate the ongoing political dispute in the state.

According to him, the APC in Rivers State has taken a firm stance, demanding that the governor either step down voluntarily or be removed by lawmakers.

“As a political party, we are today advising the governor; there are two options, resign honourably or be impeached. That is the position of the All Progressives Congress,” Okocha declared.

He further insisted that the governor’s actions were unacceptable, adding, “He has disrespected Mr. President, and we told him that we cannot be here and have him disrespect Mr. President.”

The APC chairman emphasized that there was already sufficient evidence against the governor, citing the Supreme Court’s recent ruling on the matter.

He stated that the House of Assembly did not need to initiate any further investigations, as the legal backing for Fubara’s removal was already in place.

“The offences are there; the Supreme Court has agreed and even provided us with more evidence. The House of Assembly does not need to set up any committee again to investigate him,” Okocha added.

The ultimatum given by the APC chairman has added to the already tense political atmosphere in the state.

This development comes just days after the Supreme Court ruled in favor of the reinstatement of 26 lawmakers who had defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC.

Furthermore, many have emphasized the importance of maintaining respect for the country’s leadership, noting that political disputes should be handled with caution to prevent unnecessary conflicts.

The unfolding situation in Rivers State remains critical, and all eyes are on Governor Fubara’s next move in response to the ultimatum.
