Tragic Hit-and-Run in Lagos: 12-Year-Old Girl Dies, Sister Hospitalized

A tragic accident occurred at Ogundare bus stop along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway when a hit-and-run driver, speeding along the BRT lane, struck two schoolgirls on their way home.

The victims, aged 12 and 15, were left with severe injuries, highlighting the dangers of reckless driving.

According to the Lagos State Police Command, the accident took place as the driver, disregarding traffic rules, plowed into the two siblings.

Passersby rushed to help, and the injured girls were quickly transported to Orile Agege General Hospital.

However, despite urgent medical attention, the 12-year-old girl succumbed to her injuries, while her 15-year-old sister was later transferred to Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) for further treatment.

Confirming the incident, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, stated,

“The accident victims sustained serious degrees of injuries and were quickly evacuated to Orile Agege General Hospital for treatment, where the 12-year-old sadly passed on while receiving treatment, while the other victim was later transferred to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) for further treatment.”

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare M. Jimoh, has assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway.

He emphasized the importance of strict adherence to traffic regulations to prevent such heartbreaking incidents.

In a statement, he noted, “A speedy, detailed, and conclusive investigation had commenced,” urging road users to obey traffic laws, observe speed limits, and prioritize safety.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Police Command has extended its condolences to the grieving family.

CP Jimoh expressed deep sympathy, stating that the police force is committed to ensuring justice is served.

“On behalf of officers and men of the Command, we commiserate with the family of the victims over this unfortunate incident,” he said.
