Tension in Osun as APC Officials Attempt Secretariat Takeover

Tension escalated in Osun State on Monday as elected officials of the All Progressives Congress (APC) attempted to resume duties at local government secretariats following the October 15, 2022, elections.

While the takeover at Boripe Local Government Secretariat in Iragbiji was successful, efforts to seize control of the Olorunda Local Government Secretariat in Osogbo were strongly resisted, creating chaos in the area.

Security operatives, including the police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and Amotekun Corps, were deployed to maintain order.

However, despite their presence, clashes broke out as PDP members and hoodlums confronted APC supporters, leading to violence.

Eyewitnesses reported that some APC members who gathered at the Olorunda LGA secretariat were chased away by security forces.

The entrance gate remained locked, preventing anyone from gaining access.

Meanwhile, two individuals suspected of recording the incident from a nearby building were attacked, with their phones destroyed.

Hoodlums wielding charms were also seen beating up anyone caught using mobile phones to document the events.

This heightened fears of a full-blown crisis if urgent steps were not taken to control the situation.

Osun State Commissioner for Rural Development, Mr. Gani Olaoluwa, addressed PDP supporters near the secretariat, urging them to remain calm while condemning the APC’s actions.

“We thank you for heeding our call. We won’t allow any illegal takeover here. No court judgment restored them here,” he stated.

The political tension continues to rise as both parties remain firm in their stance, leaving residents worried about potential unrest.

The situation in Osun State remains volatile, with stakeholders calling on the government to intervene before it spirals out of control. If
