The Edo State Government has suspended the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Samson Osagie, and the Chairman of the Local Government Service Commission, Damian Lawani, following allegations of serious official and financial misconduct.
The suspension was confirmed by the Secretary to the State Government, Musa Ikhilor, in a statement issued on Thursday, February 6, 2025.
The suspension, which is effective immediately, will remain in place until a thorough investigation into the allegations is completed.

“The suspension is pending the conclusion of the investigation,” Ikhilor stated.
This move highlights the government’s commitment to ensuring accountability and transparency in its leadership.
The Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, approved the suspension and has ordered the formation of an Investigative Committee to probe the allegations further.
“This action demonstrates the government’s zero tolerance for any form of financial or official misconduct,” Ikhilor added.
The suspension of Osagie and Lawani follows less than three months after their appointments, underlining the seriousness with which the government treats corruption-related issues.

The decision to suspend these officials serves as a firm reminder that the government will not condone irresponsible actions, especially when they have the potential to harm the state’s resources and progress.
This example also signals to other government officials that discipline and accountability remain at the core of the administration’s values.
The investigation into these allegations is expected to provide further clarity on the alleged infractions, ensuring that justice is served.
The outcome will likely set a strong precedent for governance in Edo State, showing that no one is above the law.
