Former Women Affairs Minister Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye Speaks Out After Dismissal, Says She Has No Regrets

Former Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, has expressed her surprise over her dismissal by President Bola Tinubu, stating that she is unaware of the reasons behind the decision.

In an interview with Channels Television on Wednesday, Kennedy-Ohanenye emphasized that she executed her duties to the best of her ability and has chosen to move on rather than dwell on the circumstances of her removal.

“I’m not a witch to know why I was sacked, and I have decided not to think about it,” she remarked. “The important thing is that I’ve been sacked, and I’ve gone back to what I was doing before.”

Reflecting on her tenure, Kennedy-Ohanenye dismissed criticisms about her approach, stressing that she had no regrets about her performance.

“Being a minister of women’s affairs at that time, I was handling sensitive cases,” she said. She defended her hands-on style, adding, “Some of them said, ‘She does not carry herself as a minister.

She goes to the police station herself.’I’m sorry for some people, the way they think. As a minister, you are supposed to be a servant; you listen to the people and respond quickly before things go wrong.”

Her dismissal in October 2023, alongside four other ministers, occurred as part of a cabinet reshuffle by President Tinubu, but the former minister insists her actions reflected dedication and purpose.
