President Tinubu Boasts of Meeting Financial Obligations Without NNPC Funds or CBN Loans

President Bola Tinubu has expressed confidence in his administration’s financial management, revealing that Nigeria has fulfilled its financial commitments over the past three months without depending on funds from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) or borrowing through the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) Ways and Means facility.

Speaking during a media chat at his residence in Ikoyi, Lagos, the President described the achievement as a significant step toward fiscal responsibility.

“Push me to my brag mode,” Tinubu said cheerfully. “In the last three months, I’ve not taken a penny from NNPC before meeting my obligations. To me, that is excellent.”

He further emphasized his administration’s focus on combating corruption, highlighting the recent increase in the national minimum wage from ₦35,000 to ₦70,000 as a proactive approach to curbing unethical practices.

“Paying them good and living wages is one of them. I increased the minimum wage… to me, that’s anti-corruption, he added.

Moreover, Tinubu reiterated his administration’s commitment to transparency and accountability, stating that efforts to fund state and local governments have been scaled up while ensuring revenue disclosures remain public.

He acknowledged the challenge of completely eradicating corruption but stressed the importance of minimizing it through policies that meet citizens’ basic needs.

“It’s very difficult to say you’ll eliminate corruption completely, but you can reduce it to the barest minimum by addressing the people’s needs,Tinubu concluded.
