Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has stated that he is willing to step down if it guarantees peace for Ukraine, suggesting he could exchange his position for NATO membership.
Speaking at a press conference on Sunday, February 23, he addressed the ongoing conflict and his commitment to the well-being of his people.
“If [it guarantees] peace for Ukraine, if you really need me to resign, I am ready. I can exchange it for NATO,” he said.
His statement comes at a time of rising tensions, with Russia intensifying its attacks and diplomatic relations with the U.S. facing new challenges.

The conflict has continued to escalate, with Russia launching a record 267 drone strikes over the weekend, killing at least one person.
Ukrainian authorities described it as the largest attack since Iranian drones started hitting cities and villages.
Meanwhile, tensions between Zelensky and former U.S. President Donald Trump have further strained diplomatic ties.
Trump initially accused Ukraine of starting the war, later acknowledging that Russia was responsible but blaming Zelensky and Joe Biden for failing to prevent it.
In response, Zelensky criticized Trump’s remarks, leading to the former president calling him a “dictator.”
However, Zelensky maintained a pragmatic stance, stating, “There is no space for emotions here.”
Additionally, discussions between the U.S. and Russia on ending the war have left Kyiv excluded, raising concerns among European allies.
In response to NATO membership uncertainty, Zelensky has emphasized that Ukraine’s army must double in size if entry into the alliance is denied.
U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth has previously stated that Kyiv joining NATO remains unrealistic.
Amid these geopolitical shifts, Ukraine is also negotiating a draft deal with the U.S. regarding rare earth minerals and other critical resources.
The agreement is seen as part of broader discussions aimed at securing military and economic support.

Addressing these talks, Zelensky stated, “I hope it will not have influence on other steps of the United States, and they will not cancel or stop or freeze any support, especially military support to Ukraine. That’s crucial for us.”
Despite the challenges, Zelensky remains committed to Ukraine’s future and the partnership with the U.S.
When asked about mending ties with Trump, he stressed the importance of maintaining strong relations.
“That’s why, for me, it is very important to have the support of the president, and support of senate, congress, your two parties, but first of all the support for your people,” he said.
As the conflict continues, Zelensky’s leadership remains centered on securing lasting peace and stability for Ukraine.
