Why Atiku’s Son Chose APC Over ADC Raises New Political Debate

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has described the decision of Abubakar Atiku Abubakar to align with the ruling party as a surprising political moment.

The move has also reopened debates about credibility, loyalty, and long-term political direction in Nigeria.

The APC said the development was unexpected, especially given the long-standing political history of Abubakar’s father, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

According to the party, the defection has raised fresh questions within political circles and among the public.

Reacting in a statement issued on Thursday, Lagos APC spokesman Seye Oladejo said the decision sent a strong message. The statement was titled, “You Can’t Trust Atiku More Than His Son.”

According to Oladejo, the party observed “with unmistakable clarity the political earthquake” created by Abubakar Atiku Abubakar’s decision.

He said the younger Atiku abandoned what he described as the “pretentious ADC contraption” to join the APC.

“This singular act has said more than a thousand press conferences ever could,” Oladejo said.

He argued that the move would naturally trigger public reflection.

“When a man’s own son deserts his political judgment, repudiates his choices, and embraces an alternative path, Nigerians are entitled to ask what deeper indictment of credibility is required,” he said.

Moreover, Oladejo suggested that personal proximity matters in politics.

“If those closest to you are unconvinced by your political convictions, how do you expect an entire nation to suspend disbelief?” he added.

The APC spokesman further accused Atiku Abubakar of lacking ideological consistency over the years.

He described his political journey as “a restless odyssey defined by serial defections, transactional alliances, and an obsession with the Presidency.”

“From the PDP to the AC, back to the PDP, and now to the ADC, his politics has been nothing more than a nomadic ambition in search of a party willing to mortgage its soul,” Oladejo said.

However, he argued that the son’s decision was more than coincidence. According to him, it was “not a coincidence but a confession,” and a rejection of what he called recycled politics and expired ambitions.

Meanwhile, Oladejo said the defection reflected growing confidence in the APC’s governance record.

He noted that the move aligned with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“Let it be said without equivocation: when credibility collapses at home, it cannot be rehabilitated in the marketplace of national politics,” he said.

In addition, the Lagos APC welcomed Abubakar Atiku Abubakar into the party. Oladejo urged Nigerians to closely observe the political shift and draw their conclusions.

“The era of political tourism, moral inconsistency, and ambition without ideology is gasping for relevance,” he said. “If Atiku’s son has moved on, Nigeria certainly should.”

The Atiku son joins APC development has therefore added a new layer to Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.
