Victor Osimhen Makes History as First Nigerian to Score 10 Champions League Goals

Nigerian football star Victor Osimhen has etched his name into UEFA Champions League history after becoming the first Nigerian to score 10 goals in the competition.

The Super Eagles and Galatasaray striker reached the milestone on Tuesday night, September 30, in a thrilling 1-0 win over Liverpool at RAMS Park.

Osimhen, 26, calmly converted a penalty past Alisson Becker, sending the Brazilian goalkeeper the wrong way after Dominic Sobozlai’s foul on Barış Alper Yılmaz earned Galatasaray the spot-kick.

The decisive goal not only sealed victory for the Turkish giants but also carved out a special place for Osimhen in Nigerian football history.

With his latest strike, Osimhen moved past former Super Eagles forward Obafemi Martins, who had held the record for the most goals scored by a Nigerian in the UEFA Champions League.

By hitting double digits, Osimhen now stands alone as the country’s top scorer in Europe’s most prestigious club competition, excluding qualification rounds.

Moreover, the forward also achieved another milestone becoming the first Nigerian to score for three different clubs in the Champions League.

He had previously found the net for French side Lille and Italian giants Napoli before continuing his goal-scoring form with Galatasaray.

From his early days at the FIFA U-17 World Cup to playing in Europe’s elite leagues, he has consistently proven his worth.

Football fans across Nigeria and beyond have celebrated the record-breaking moment. The striker himself took to social media after the game, sharing his excitement and gratitude to his supporters.

The Champions League has always been a stage where legends are made, and Osimhen’s name is now firmly among those to remember.
