Popular social commentator VeryDarkMan, widely known as VDM, has ignited fresh controversy after publicly criticising the Ekiti State Government over its 2026 budget proposal.
The backlash followed claims that the state allocated what he described as a shockingly low amount to primary healthcare.
The development has triggered heated debates online and offline, largely because the revelation came as a surprise to many residents.
In a viral video shared across social media platforms, VDM accused the Ekiti State Governor and members of the House of Assembly of prioritising personal comfort over the lives of citizens.
His emotional outburst quickly gained traction.
“God will punish you. Not just you, but every member of the Ekiti State House of Assembly. When you don’t fear God, you will enjoy His punishment,” VDM said in the video. His words were directed squarely at state lawmakers and top officials.
According to the activist, the Ekiti State Government proposed a budget of about ₦415.5 billion for 2026.
However, he alleged that only ₦68 million was allocated to primary healthcare across the entire state.

Therefore, he questioned how such funding could meet the needs of residents.
VDM pointed out that the last official census in 2006 placed Ekiti’s population at about 2.3 million people. Furthermore, he argued that the current population would be far higher today.
“Even if we don’t exaggerate, let’s say Ekiti now has over twenty million people. Elderly people, pregnant women, children and you budget N68 million for primary healthcare?” he asked.
In addition, he alleged that just ₦1.6 million was set aside for drugs, laboratory services, and medical supplies. Meanwhile, lawmakers were accused of approving significantly higher allocations for themselves.
He listed budget items such as ₦618 million for honoraria and sitting allowances. Moreover, ₦150 million was reportedly earmarked for office furniture maintenance. Another ₦24 million was proposed for refreshments and meals, while over ₦100 million was budgeted for office equipment.
“You people budget more money for food, furniture and sitting down than for hospitals. God will punish you,” he repeated.
