Updates: Over 11,000 VIP Police Escorts Recalled on Tinubu’s Directive

The Federal Government has ordered the withdrawal of 11,566 VIP police guards, marking one of the most significant security restructurings in recent years.

The directive, issued by President Bola Tinubu, was confirmed on Thursday by the Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, during a meeting with senior officers in Abuja.

Egbetokun explained that the presidential instruction has given him full authority to execute the order without interference.

Moreover, he stressed that no Very Important Personality would challenge the decision since it originated from the President himself.

“No VIP will question the recall of their security personnel since the instruction came directly from the President,” he stated.

Furthermore, the IGP noted that the move aims to strengthen operational capacity and restore manpower to critical security tasks nationwide.

He urged officers to remain committed to their duties as the nation continues to experience varied security threats.

“Officers must stay professional and committed to securing the nation,” he said.

In addition, he called for round-the-clock efforts to prevent criminal activities across states.

Egbetokun highlighted that the police would continue to work closely with other security agencies.

Therefore, he assured Nigerians that the force will not relax its efforts to address current and emerging threats.

Meanwhile, senior officers were briefed on new strategies to improve rapid response, intelligence gathering, and crisis management.
