UAE Tightens Dubai Entry for Nigerians: Transit Visas Banned, Solo Travelers Aged 18–45 Barred

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has introduced stricter entry rules for Nigerians visiting Dubai, including a full ban on transit visa applications.

Travel agents were informed of the policy changes on Tuesday, July 8.

Amid rising international travel demand, Dubai immigration now prohibits Nigerians aged 18–45 from obtaining solo tourist visas.

Travelers in this age range must now be accompanied — solo applications are no longer accepted.

UAE authorities have also mandated new financial requirements for older travelers.

“An applicant who is 45 yrs or above must provide a Single Nigerian personal bank statement for a period of last six months, with each month’s end balance reflecting a minimum ending balance of USD 10,000 or its naira equivalent”.

Furthermore, full documentation including hotel reservations and valid passport data pages is now required before applications can be submitted.

These new rules arrive just a year following the lifting of a two-year UAE visa ban on Nigerians.

The earlier restrictions, triggered by diplomatic tensions and security concerns, had strained travel ties.

Travel agencies are already reporting increased delays and confusion.

The inability to obtain transit visas will affect travelers connecting through Dubai en route to Europe or other regions.

Moreover, the financial requirement for older applicants demonstrating \$10,000 in monthly closing bank balances effectively limits access to wealthier individuals, exacerbating travel inequality.

The UAE Ministry of Interior described the changes as aligned with global trends in visa reciprocity, intended to balance national security and economic interests.

Nigerian travelers are urged to review their travel plans carefully.

Those aged 18–45 may consider traveling with companions, while older visitors must ensure bank statements reflect the required USD 10,000 monthly minimum.

Travel agents are expected to see more inquiries as Nigerians adjust to the new rules.

Meanwhile, discussions between both governments may follow, especially if the measures severely impact air traffic and tourism.

UAE authorities have banned transit visas for Nigerians, barred solo travelers aged 18–45, and imposed a USD 10,000 monthly bank balance for those aged 45+.
