Trump Demands 30-Day Ceasefire in Ukraine, Warns of Fresh Sanctions

U.S. President Donald Trump has urged both Russia and Ukraine to agree to an unconditional 30-day ceasefire, pushing for immediate action to halt the ongoing war.

The call came with a firm warning that failure to respect the ceasefire would lead to more sanctions imposed by Washington and its allies.

Trump’s renewed effort marks a major diplomatic push from the U.S. government, which has been trying to play the role of a peace broker between the two nations.

The proposal is already drawing reactions from both countries Ukraine has welcomed the offer, while Russia has only suggested a temporary three-day pause.

In a post shared on social media, Trump declared, “If the (30-day) ceasefire is not respected, the U.S. and its partners will impose further sanctions.”

He added that the goal of the truce is to lay the groundwork for long-term peace.

“This ceasefire must ultimately build toward a Peace Agreement. It can all be done very quickly, and I will be available on a moment’s notice if my services are needed.”

It highlights Trump’s continued interest in making peace efforts a top priority.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy confirmed his country’s readiness for the full 30-day ceasefire during a phone conversation with Trump.

“Kyiv was ready for a 30-day ceasefire with Russia starting this minute,” Zelenskiy said, signaling strong support for the U.S.-led plan.

He also made it clear that Russia must show true commitment by stopping all fighting.

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian foreign ministry criticized Russia’s offer of a shorter three day ceasefire.

According to officials in Kyiv, the Russian side had already broken its own ceasefire terms just hours after they took effect. The ministry described the offer as a “farce.”

Trump’s push for peace stems partly from growing frustration with both sides.

He began talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in February as part of his campaign vow to end the war quickly.

However, as time passes with little progress, his tone has become more urgent.

“Hopefully, an acceptable ceasefire will be observed, and both Countries will be held accountable for respecting the sanctity of these direct negotiations,” Trump said, underlining the need for both parties to act responsibly.

Furthermore, officials in Trump’s administration have warned that the U.S. might step back from peace talks if both Russia and Ukraine fail to make real progress.
