President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a fresh round of appointments into major Federal Government agencies, bringing several familiar faces back into public service.
The development has attracted attention, especially with the appointment of former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose as Chairman of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA).
The new appointments affect 10 federal agencies and commissions, with 26 individuals named to occupy strategic leadership positions.
Meanwhile, several experienced public servants, technocrats and former lawmakers have also been assigned new responsibilities across different sectors.
The appointments were announced in a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the statement, Fayose will lead the board of the Rural Electrification Agency.
He will serve alongside Alhaji Ahmadu Abubakar and Engineer Ilyasu Ibrahim Makinta, who were appointed as board members and non-executive directors.
Furthermore, the agency’s Director-General, Abba Abubakar Aliyu, and three executive directors already serving will remain part of the board.
Another notable appointment saw Major General Junaid Bindawa named Chairman of the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission.
In addition, former House of Representatives member Olajumoke Okoya-Thomas was appointed Secretary of the commission.
Several commissioners were also named to strengthen the commission.
They include Dr. Ogbole Ene Lilian representing Benue State, Oladele Olatubosun from Oyo State, and Yakubu Umar Barde from Kaduna State.
Other members appointed include Dr. Mai Adamu Yau from Borno State, Ginika Florence Tor from Enugu State, Engineer Lawrence Okoh from Edo State, and Bello Morenike Iyabode from Kogi State.
Meanwhile, Tosin Johnson Adeyanju received a new assignment after previously serving as Executive Secretary of the National Lottery Trust Fund.
He has now been appointed Secretary of the Revenue Mobilization, Allocation and Fiscal Commission.
The President also approved the appointment of Dr. Abuh Mohammed as Director-General of the National Population Commission.
Similarly, Dr. Akinola Odeyemi was named Managing Director of the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company (NBET).
Furthermore, Dr. Anthony Inalegwu Godwin was appointed Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission.
Engineer Julius Oloro was also named Chief Executive Officer of the National Centre for Agricultural Mechanisation.
He replaces the late Dr. A.R. Kamal, who passed away in January.
The President also constituted the board of the Fiscal Responsibility Commission. Dr. Abdullahi Maikano Saidu will serve as chairman.
Other members include Mohammed Asmau, Mohammed Aliyu Makama, Dr. Suleiman Gidado, Louis O. Ndukwe, Amaechi Ugwele and Olaniyi Idowu Onikola.
Meanwhile, Shuni Muhammad Dahiru emerged as the new Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education.
He replaces Professor Shu’aibu Shehu Aliyu, who had earlier been reassigned to the Petroleum Trust Development Fund.
The Federal Housing Authority also received a new appointment. Gisaor Vincent Iorja was named Executive Director of Finance.
He replaces Mathias Byuan, who resigned to contest the Benue State governorship election.
Iorja currently serves as Secretary of the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission.
According to the Presidency, the appointments became effective immediately.
Moreover, the new officials are expected to support ongoing reforms in infrastructure, electricity, agriculture, population management, public finance and economic development.
