Tinubu Shifts Kaduna Visit, Heads to Benue to Tackle Crisis

President Bola Tinubu has altered his travel plans and will now visit Benue State on Wednesday, June 18, 2025.

This change replaces his earlier scheduled visit to Kaduna State and signals a strong move toward addressing the prolonged violence plaguing Benue communities.

The president’s change in itinerary follows renewed public outcry over the killings in the state.

His visit is expected to reassure residents and set a new course for peace and security.

During the visit, President Tinubu is expected to hold a town hall meeting with traditional rulers, political leaders, religious figures, and youth representatives.

According to the presidency, the aim is to “seek lasting solutions to the hostilities” that have affected lives and livelihoods in Benue.

Meanwhile, key figures have already been dispatched to prepare for the visit.

These include the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Inspector General of Police, heads of top intelligence agencies, the National Security Adviser, and leaders of the National Assembly’s Defence Committees.

A presidential statement said, “President Tinubu will assess firsthand the recurring crisis that has claimed numerous lives and caused significant destruction.”

This move is seen as a renewed push to foster peace in Benue, a state that has faced waves of violent attacks in recent years.

Many residents view the president’s visit as a much-needed step in acknowledging their pain and prioritising their safety.

Previously, President Tinubu condemned the violent attacks and extended his condolences. He urged Nigerians to choose unity, saying, “Let us embrace peace, love, and mutual understanding.”

While residents welcome the visit, they remain hopeful that it will be more than symbolic.
