President Bola Tinubu is expected to present the 2026 Appropriation Bill to a joint session of the National Assembly on Friday, December 19, 2025.
The planned budget presentation is coming earlier than many observers anticipated, therefore raising fresh interest across political and economic circles.
According to official arrangements, the President will address lawmakers at 2:00 p.m. inside the National Assembly complex in Abuja.
Ahead of the event, a formal notice from the Presidency is expected to be read during plenary in the House of Representatives on Thursday, December 18.
The development was confirmed through an internal letter dated December 17, 2025, circulated within the National Assembly bureaucracy.
The communication was signed by the Secretary, Human Resources and Staff Development, Adm. Essien Eyo Essien, on behalf of the Clerk to the National Assembly, Kamoru Ogunlana.
Copies of the letter were sent to the Deputy Clerk and all departmental heads, signaling the seriousness of the preparation.
According to the letter, President Tinubu, “in his capacity as President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” will formally present the proposed budget.
Moreover, strict security measures have been announced ahead of the visit, reflecting the high-level nature of the event.

All accredited persons have been directed to be at their duty posts “by 11:00 a.m.,” as access to the complex will be restricted afterward.
In addition, non-accredited individuals were clearly advised to stay away from the National Assembly premises on the day.
The letter also outlined special parking arrangements for staff members, excluding senior clerks and their deputies.
Affected staff were instructed to park their vehicles at designated areas within the Annex or the new car park by the Service Gate.
Meanwhile, legislative sources say the presentation marks the formal transmission of the Federal Government’s spending and revenue plans to lawmakers.
The 2026 Appropriation Bill will now be subjected to debate, committee scrutiny, and possible adjustments by both chambers.
However, the early notice and tight logistics have surprised some lawmakers, who were not expecting such swift coordination.
Therefore, expectations are already building around the policy direction and spending priorities Tinubu will unveil.
Furthermore, the budget presentation is expected to shape economic discussions ahead of the new fiscal year.
