The Nasarawa State Police Command, which arrested Ajayi on January 12, has charged him with a crime punishable by death.

According to Stanley Nwaforagu, Officer-in-Charge, Legal, of the Nasarawa State Police Command, the court has scheduled a trial for March 17 to 20, with assurances of a swift legal process.

“Today, the 27th day of January 2025, the defendant, Mr. Timileyin Ajayi, was properly arraigned before this Honourable court on the one count charge of culpable homicide punishable with death,” Nwaforagu stated.

He further emphasized that the police are confident in their evidence, adding, “We have overwhelming evidence to sustain the charge, and we are optimistic that justice will be done.”

Ajayi’s defense counsel, Joseph Tukur, maintained that his client’s plea was in line with legal requirements.

Tukur explained that his role is to ensure the prosecution fulfills its obligation of proving the case beyond a reasonable doubt.

“The work of the defense counsel is to ensure that the prosecution does their work legally well,” Tukur noted.

While Ajayi’s plea has sparked debate, further investigations and court proceedings will determine his culpability.

Adaidu’s death remains a painful reminder of the need for justice and transparency in such tragic cases.
