The message, received in the early hours of Thursday, February 19, 2026, allegedly demanded N100 million before the group would be allowed to enter the town to “preach.” Residents say the threat has created deep anxiety.

The Kebbi terrorist threat letter has unsettled families and raised fresh security concerns in the region. Moreover, the reference to a past deadly attack in another state has intensified the panic.

According to the letter, the group warned the community not to ignore its demand. “This is not a joke. We are coming to preach. You must pay us N100 million,” the letter read.

It further stated, “If you refuse, you will face the consequences and have no one to blame but yourselves. Even if you call soldiers, they cannot stop us.”

The mention of Woru community in Kwara State added to the fear. In that earlier case, several people were reportedly killed after a similar warning was ignored. Therefore, many residents are taking the new threat seriously.

A community source, who asked not to be named for safety reasons, described the tense mood. “People are scared. The mention of what happened in Woru has made the threat more frightening. Many families are already discussing safety plans in case anything happens,” the source said.

Meanwhile, the Kebbi State Government has confirmed that the letter is real. The Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Alhaji Ahmed Idris, spoke on the matter on Thursday evening.

“I just spoke with the Director of Security; he confirmed the information and said security has been deployed to the area,” Idris said.

He added that further steps have been taken to prevent any possible attack. “The government, alongside security agencies, has deployed security to the area, including air surveillance.”

“I am sure you know the state government is not playing with the security of the state. His Excellency (the state governor) has been up and doing on security matters, and this will not be an exception.”

The Kebbi terrorist threat letter has once again highlighted the fragile security situation in parts of northern Nigeria.

Security presence has reportedly been increased, and surveillance operations are ongoing. In addition, although no attack has occurred, residents have been urged to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement agencies.
