Temporary Abstinence Is Not Sobriety — Ned Nwoko Reacts to Regina Daniels’ Drug Test

A fresh twist has emerged in the ongoing public dispute between Nigerian politician Ned Nwoko and his estranged wife, actress Regina Daniels.

This time, the focus has shifted to drug test results, court orders, and claims of accountability.

Regina Daniels recently revealed that she submitted herself for a drug test in the United Kingdom.

The result, which she shared publicly, showed no trace of drugs in her system. According to the actress, the decision was driven by a need to clear her name and protect her image for her children.

However, Ned Nwoko’s response came swiftly and forcefully. In a strongly worded statement, the senator dismissed the result as insufficient proof of sobriety. He warned the public against drawing quick conclusions from a single test.

“DONT BE FOOLED: TEMPORARY ABSTINENCE IS NOT SOBRIETY,” Nwoko wrote.

Moreover, it shifted attention from the test result itself to deeper claims of long-term concerns.

Nwoko argued that short-term abstinence does not resolve underlying issues that had previously raised alarm.

“Temporary abstinence, does not erase the underlying challenges that brought this situation to light,” he stated.

He added that recovery and accountability require sustained effort and professional care, not public declarations.

Meanwhile, Nwoko questioned the circumstances surrounding the UK test. He claimed the conditions under which it was conducted remained unclear. In contrast, he referenced earlier assessments allegedly carried out in Nigeria and South Africa.

“Earlier findings of drugs and alcohol use were established through assessments conducted by two independent, reputable centres in Nigeria and South Africa,” he said. According to him, these reports were documented and would be defended in court.

This response has placed the Regina Daniels drug test at the center of a legal and personal storm. Furthermore, Nwoko rejected claims that the negative test erased past findings. He described such interpretations as misleading.

“Presenting a later negative result as proof that no prior use occurred is misleading and disingenuous,” he wrote.

In addition, the senator addressed public discussions around MDMA, also known as Molly. He stressed that renaming the substance does not reduce its risks or effects.

“Regardless of how casually it is referenced or repackaged in language, it is a drug,” he said.

Nwoko also revealed that private rehabilitation efforts were previously explored. According to him, these steps were taken quietly to avoid media drama. He claimed those efforts failed due to denial and lack of accountability.

Furthermore, he cited a court ruling that reportedly granted him custody and ordered supervised therapy for Regina. He insisted the matter was never intended for public spectacle.

“Healing is not episodic, and accountability is not performative,” Nwoko added.

Therefore, he maintained that any test, regardless of location, would face court scrutiny. He also stated that a court-appointed laboratory may eventually be used to verify all claims.
