Nigeria has lost a true icon. Renowned Kano-based business tycoon and philanthropist, Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata, has passed away at the age of 94.
The elder statesman reportedly died in the early hours of Saturday in Abuja, bringing to an end a legacy that touched every sector—from commerce to charity.
His passing has sent waves of sorrow across the nation, especially in the North where his influence was deeply rooted.
His Principal Private Secretary, Mustapha Junaid, confirmed the heartbreaking news in an emotional Facebook post.

“Innalillahi wa inna ilaihi rajiun. Innalillahi wa inna ilaihi rajiun. It is with heavy heart that I announce the passing of our beloved father Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata. May Allah grant him Jannatul Firdaus and forgive his shortcomings,” Junaid wrote.
He also noted that further details concerning the Janazah (funeral prayers) would be shared soon.
Alhaji Dantata was not just a wealthy businessman he was a symbol of hope and generosity.
He stood among Nigeria’s most influential private-sector players, carving a name for himself in trading, oil, and real estate over the decades.
He invested heavily in education, healthcare, and religious development, earning him the deep respect of his community and beyond.
He funded countless mosques, donated to universities, supported hospitals, and helped struggling families all without seeking recognition.
Moreover, he remained a mentor and supporter of younger entrepreneurs, many of whom describe him as “the pillar of Northern enterprise.”

Since news of his passing broke, tributes have been pouring in. Community leaders, politicians, and religious scholars have praised his life of service and commitment to national growth.
Furthermore, religious leaders across the North have asked Nigerians to pray for the repose of his soul. “He was a man of integrity, humility, and silent power,” said a Kano-based Islamic scholar on Saturday.
His death comes at a time when Nigeria continues to search for strong moral leadership and genuine philanthropy.
May his soul find peace, and may his legacy continue to inspire generations.
