Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has been hit by another tragedy, barely two months after losing his father.
The Chippa United shot-stopper announced the death of his mother via X (formerly Twitter) on New Year’s Day, describing it as the “worst year of his life already.” 
In his emotional post, Nwabali expressed his grief with the words, “Rip mom, worst year of my life already,accompanied by heartbreak and crying emojis.
The goalkeeper also posted, “A very, very crazy world indeed,” before sharing the heartbreaking news publicly.
Following his announcement, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) extended its condolences to the player.
The football body posted, “Our heartfelt condolences to Stanley Nwabali on the loss of his mother. Stay strong, Stanley.
Sending you strength and support during this difficult time. You are not alone; we are all with you.”
Nwabali’s tragic loss comes shortly after the passing of his father, which was announced in November 2023.
The incident occurred just hours after Nwabali played for the Super Eagles in their 1-1 draw against Benin Republic during the 2025 AFCON qualification match.
His latest loss has left fans and supporters deeply concerned about his well-being and career focus.
Although Nwabali has not disclosed the cause of his mother’s death, the news shocked many, as he had earlier shared a recap of his successes in 2024.
He wrote, “2024 was a good year; we’re doubling everything in 2025. Thank you, Chippa United FC. Thank you, Super Eagles. Thanks to all my fans. Let’s do more!”
Condolence messages have continued to pour in from fans, journalists, and teammates, encouraging Nwabali to stay strong during this tough time.
Journalist Latifat Adebayo-Ohio commented, “So sorry for your loss.
May God comfort you and your family.” A fan, Hillary Remy, added, “May God strengthen you and all your family members.”
While the loss is undoubtedly painful, supporters hope that Stanley Nwabali will find strength and keep pushing forward in his career.
Many have expressed optimism that he will rise above the grief and continue to shine both for Chippa United and the Super Eagles as he honors the legacy of his parents.
