A New York City police spokesperson said officers were responding to the scene. The New York Post described the scene as gruesome, happening in the rush hour.

A witness saying that there were so many rounds fired off she “lost count.” The suspect is believed to be a black man dressed in construction garb.

But at least five people were shot and 13 injured overall as explosive devices were found. Local media, citing fire department sources said the incident occurred at about 8.30 a.m during the morning commute at the 36th Street subway station in Brooklyn’s Sunset Park neighbourhood.

The witness said she saw the man — who was described as a 5-foot-5 black man, around 170 pounds wearing an orange vest and gas mask — drop “some kind of cylinder that sparked at the top.” “I thought he was an MTA worker at first because I was like, I didn’t like pay too much attention. You know? You’ve got the orange on,” she said.
