King Charles III has officially stripped his brother, Prince Andrew, of all remaining royal titles and honours.
The move, confirmed by Buckingham Palace on Thursday, October 30, follows renewed controversy over Andrew’s continued ties to the late convicted s+x offender Jeffrey Epstein.
According to the palace, the king has “initiated a formal process to remove the Style, Titles and Honours of Prince Andrew.”
This historic step makes Andrew the first British royal in over a century to lose all official recognition.
He will now be addressed simply as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor, and has been ordered to vacate his residence, the Royal Lodge, moving instead to private accommodation on the Sandringham estate.
The decision comes after mounting public and political backlash over new evidence suggesting that Andrew maintained contact with Epstein longer than he had admitted.
The matter resurfaced following the release of Nobody’s Girl, a memoir by Virginia Roberts Giuffre, one of Epstein’s known victims.
Giuffre, who died in April, had accused Andrew of s+xually ab¥sing her when she was 17.
Though Andrew denied the allegations, he reached a multimillion-pound settlement with Giuffre in 2022, without admitting guilt.
In an official statement, Buckingham Palace said the king’s decision reflected “serious lapses of judgement,” adding that, “Their Majesties’ sympathies remain with victims and survivors of all forms of ab¥se.”
The announcement has sparked widespread reactions across Britain and beyond.
Giuffre’s brother, Skye Roberts, welcomed the development, saying, “An ordinary American girl brought down a British prince with her truth and extraordinary courage.”
Moreover, royal watchers describe the move as a clear signal that King Charles intends to protect the monarchy’s image, even if it means disciplining close family members.
Earlier this month, Andrew, 65, had already relinquished his title as Duke of York.
The new directive, however, strips him of additional honours, including the Order of the Garter and the Knight Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order.
However, it was deemed necessary to maintain public trust in the royal institution.
Furthermore, Andrew’s removal from the Royal Lodge is expected to take effect within weeks.
His relocation to Sandringham will mark a new, quieter chapter in his life, away from the public spotlight.
