Power Minister Accuses Primate Ayodele of N150m Extortion Attempt

Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Bayo Adelabu, has accused Primate Elijah Ayodele of demanding N150 million from him for “spiritual support” ahead of the 2027 Oyo governorship race.

The allegation, which has shocked many, was revealed in a petition submitted to the Department of State Services (DSS).

According to the petition dated 13 October 2025, Adelabu said the cleric requested huge sums of money and costly items.

Moreover, the request was reportedly framed as a divine condition for election victory.

The petition was signed by Adelabu’s aide, Bolaji Tunji, who said the minister rejected every demand.

In addition, Adelabu alleged that Primate Ayodele turned hostile after he refused to participate in the spiritual instructions.

The minister described the demands as disturbing for a political process.

The petition stated that the cleric asked him to provide 24 APC flags and 1,000 saxophones or trumpets.

Messages seen by TheCable placed the estimated cost between N50 million and N130 million.

The instrument price varied based on whether the minister chose local or imported versions.

The deadline for these items was first fixed for April 1 and later shifted to April 4.

Furthermore, Ayodele allegedly insisted the demands were divine.

He reportedly claimed they were “instructions from God” and also encouraged the minister to perform prayers, vigils, and other spiritual activities.

Adelabu, however, told the cleric that he could not afford such items or follow the instructions.

Meanwhile, sources said the cleric later used his church service to issue warnings.

Ayodele reportedly declared that Adelabu would not become governor because he rejected the divine messages.

The cleric even invited him to challenge him in court.

The petition also framed the matter as an attempt to pressure a political aspirant through financial and spiritual demands.

Therefore, Adelabu maintained that his refusal led to public pronouncements against his ambition.
