Portable Speaks Out on Alleged Entertainment Industry Gang Up After Ibrahim Chatta’s AMVCA Loss

Controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, widely known as Portable, has once again stirred public discussion with claims of bias within the entertainment industry.

The singer, in a new video shared on his Instagram page, alleged that a “gang up” exists against certain individuals in the Nigerian music and film sectors.

His statement followed the recently concluded 11th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), where popular Nollywood actor Ibrahim Chatta failed to win in his category.

Chatta, who was nominated for Best Lead Actor for his performance in House of GAA, lost the award to Femi Adebayo for his role in Seven Doors.

Reacting to the outcome, Portable insisted Chatta was the rightful winner, expressing strong disappointment in what he described as unfair treatment.

He said, “My fans, there is a gang up in the Nigerian entertainment industry, even in Nollywood.

They didn’t give Ibrahim Chatta an award at the 11th AMVCA despite his impeccable acting.

That was how I was also snubbed by The Headies Awards.”

He further stressed that monetary success should outweigh the pursuit of awards in the industry.

According to him, many artists and actors are sidelined despite their talent and hard work.

“Awards are unnecessary. We need money and food. We have money, but unlike some people, we are unable to utilize it to purchase rewards,”he added.

He then offered heartfelt support to Chatta, calling him a role model in the industry:

“God will bless you if they don’t, Ibrahim Chatta. You are my mentor, boss. I cherish you.”

Interestingly, Chatta himself had previously spoken out in 2023, claiming he was being deliberately overlooked by the award bodies.

At that time, the veteran actor stated that there seemed to be a deliberate move to exclude him, even though fans continued to celebrate his roles in major films.

The AMVCA controversy has once again sparked conversation about fairness and inclusivity in Nigerian entertainment.
