According to the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, credible intelligence led operatives to a forest hideout in Ihube.

Upon arrival, the team encountered heavy gunfire from the terrorists, including three identified members of the Eastern Security Network (ESN).

“The operatives demonstrated exceptional courage and engaged the attackers in a fierce gun battle,” Adejobi stated in a press release.

The operation resulted in the neutralization of six terrorists, including three ESN kingpins identified as Ifeanyi Anayo, Chukwuemeka Odionyenfe, and Kingsley Sunday.

In addition, police recovered five AK-47 rifles, 552 rounds of live ammunition, IEDs, communication equipment, and eight operational motorcycles.

Prior investigations linked the group to high-profile crimes such as the Owerri Correctional Center attack, the killing of five policemen, and multiple kidnappings.

Meanwhile, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, commended the officers for their bravery and urged all police formations to sustain the momentum.

He assured the public that the police remain committed to ensuring national security.

Adejobi added, “We call on citizens to remain vigilant and collaborate with the Nigeria Police Force to promote peace and ensure safety for all.”
