The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of widespread vote buying and electoral malpractice during the Ondo gubernatorial election held on Saturday.
In a statement by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, the PDP claimed the election was marred by “election merchandising, monetization, and barefaced vote buying” orchestrated by the APC to suppress the true aspirations of the people.
The party criticized the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for failing to ensure a free, fair, and credible election, describing the process as “the worst conducted by INEC.”
“The National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP will be having a more detailed review of the election and its outcome and take appropriate action in the defense of our democracy,” Ologunagba said.
He urged Nigerians and the international community to take note of the alleged irregularities and called for immediate action to address such issues to safeguard Nigeria’s democracy.
According to him, “This election witnessed widespread election merchandising, monetization, and barefaced vote buying by the APC and its apparatus in government to suppress the genuine aspiration of the people.”
The PDP emphasized that the electoral process must reflect the will of the people and called for a proper investigation into the alleged misconduct.
The party further noted that ensuring transparency and fairness in the election process is critical to restoring confidence in Nigeria’s democratic system.
With growing concerns about electoral manipulation, the PDP pledged to take all necessary measures to uphold the integrity of democracy and the rights of the electorate.
