The Senior Pastor of House on the Rock, Paul Adefarasin, was granted bail on Tuesday shortly after turning himself in at the Lagos State Police Command.
He faces questioning over a viral video that sparked national debate.
According to the police, the object seen in the footage a weapon-like device was not a firearm but a stun gun.
This classification shifts the nature of the investigation while clarifying public confusion.
The Lagos State Police shared the update on their official X page.
The Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, stated,

“What was recovered from him, the gun‑like object seen in the viral video, is not a lethal weapon or firearm, but a stun gun, which is a prohibited anti‑riot equipment.”
He added that the incident remains under investigation.
Meanwhile, Pastor Adefarasin had told his church members earlier that the object was not a firearm though he stopped short of naming it before the police confirmation.
The video of Adefarasin pointing the device at a road user went viral last week.
It prompted widespread public backlash and fear, as viewers interpreted it as a firearm threat.

However, with the Paul Adefarasin stun gun revelation, attention is now shifting toward legality and public safety rather than firearm use.
Within hours of his surrender and the police statement, Adefarasin was granted bail.
The use of a stun gun a prohibited item under anti-riot regulations does not carry the same penalties as using a firearm.

Community reactions have been mixed. Some commend Adefarasin’s surrender and cooperation, noting that it helps clarify his intentions.
Police detectives are gathering witness accounts and video evidence to determine intent and eligibility for charges under anti-riot laws.
