The location and surrounding areas were quickly secured and cordoned off to prevent further risk.

According to the police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, “Operatives of the Mobile Police and Conventional Police Teams have been dispatched, while the scene has been swept by the EOD Experts to ensure the safety of residents and facilitate a comprehensive investigation to determine the actual cause of the explosion.”

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Owohunwa Jimoh, visited the site to assess the damage and reassure residents.

He called for calm and assured the public that the police were actively handling the matter.

“The scene of the explosion and the adjoining area have been rendered safe and secured,” Jimoh stated.

In addition, five individuals who were in or around the affected shop sustained varying degrees of injuries.

They were promptly rescued and transported to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), where they are currently receiving medical treatment.

Their conditions have been stabilized, and no fatalities have been reported.

While the explosion’s exact origin has not yet been determined, security operatives have launched a full investigation.

Authorities are working to identify what triggered the incident and to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

The prompt deployment of the EOD team helped to neutralize any immediate threats, according to the police.

This incident serves as a wake-up call for citizens and businesses to be more sensitive and vigilant regarding their surroundings.

In light of recent events like the Hudson River helicopter crash and other unexpected tragedies, authorities continue to urge the public to report suspicious activities and avoid unsafe storage of flammable materials.

Furthermore, the police emphasized the importance of continuous public cooperation as investigations continue.

Residents are urged not to speculate or spread panic, as official updates will be provided as findings emerge.
