Award-winning Nigerian singer Omah Lay has left fans worried after he shared troubling late-night posts on Snapchat, revealing he was struggling with his mental health.
The Afrobeats star, known for his emotionally heavy sound, openly admitted he was “losing his mind again,” while lashing out at the music industry.
The 27-year-old singer wrote in frustration:
“Fuck contracts Fuck labels Fuck the music business Fuck my younger self Fuck Fuck Fuck Fuck Fuck! Fuck everything.
God, please help, I’m losing my mind again.”
His posts immediately went viral, drawing mixed reactions from fans.
While many expressed deep concern for his well-being, others speculated that the outburst could signal the arrival of new music.
One fan, benh_adams, commented: “New song coming.”
Another, sandy_coco, wrote: “Omo, we are getting a mad album soon, he is depressed again.”
Meanwhile, others worried about his constant emotional battles, with princess_starrrnoting: “Now I know money isn’t everything, cos why is he always depressed.”
This isn’t the first time Omah Lay has opened up about his struggles.
In a January 2024 tweet, he publicly prayed to God, asking for more money.
In interviews, he has also revealed that much of his music is drawn from personal pain, which fans now call “Afro-depression” a unique blend of Afrobeats and melancholy.
Responding to an old post about the challenges of songwriting, he admitted that many of his hit songs came from his own misery.
“Most of my songs were inspired by my pain,” he confessed.
Omah Lay has also had issues within the industry.
Last year, he claimed that a popular musician stole one of his album ideas, forcing him to recreate his project from scratch.
Despite the setback, he remained confident, saying the recreated album would be his greatest work yet.
The latest outburst has reignited conversations about mental health in the Nigerian music industry.
Some fans worry that the star is constantly battling depression, while others insist that his emotional turmoil is what makes his music raw and relatable.
One fan summed it up: “Always depressed… release album.”
For now, it remains unclear whether Omah Lay’s Snapchat rant was a cry for help, a prelude to new music, or both.
