Ogun Police Foil ₦50m Kidnap Plot Against Chinese National, Arrest Two Suspects

A kidnapping plot targeting a Chinese national has been stopped in Ogun State after police operatives arrested two suspected conspirators linked to a planned ₦50 million ransom demand.

The intelligence report revealed an alleged plan to abduct the foreign national along the busy Ijebu-Ode/Odogbolu Expressway corridor.

The suspects were intercepted before the plan could be carried out. Moreover, preliminary findings suggest that one of the arrested men allegedly used his position within the victim’s work environment to help coordinate the plot.

According to the Ogun State Police Command, the suspects, identified as Chinedu Onwuemena, 41, and Jimoh Ojo, 37, were arrested on June 9, 2026, at about 5:30 p.m.

The operation was launched after credible intelligence was received by officers at the Obalende Division. Therefore, the Divisional Police Officer immediately mobilised surveillance and tactical teams to the identified location.

The suspects were later apprehended, effectively disrupting the alleged criminal plan before it could be executed.

Furthermore, inquiries revealed that Onwuemena reportedly worked as an interpreter and driver within the company environment connected to the intended victim.

Police believe that access to sensitive information may have been exploited to facilitate the planned abduction.

Meanwhile, investigations have revealed that the suspects were not acting alone. Another alleged member of the conspiracy reportedly escaped and remains on the run.

As a result, security agencies have intensified efforts to locate and arrest the fleeing accomplice. In addition, detectives are expanding their investigation to uncover the full network behind the plot.

Speaking on the development, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, praised officers involved in the operation.

The police statement noted that the Commissioner commended “the professionalism, vigilance, and swift response of the operatives of Obalende Division, whose proactive action prevented what could have resulted in a serious kidnapping incident.”

The Commissioner also highlighted the importance of intelligence sharing in fighting crime.

According to the statement, he acknowledged “the value of timely intelligence, which once again underscores the importance of community partnership in crime prevention and security management.”

Moreover, the police chief reassured residents and investors that the command remains committed to intelligence-driven policing and public safety.

Meanwhile, residents have been encouraged to remain alert and report suspicious activities to security agencies.
