A nationwide recruitment drive has been launched as the Police Service Commission and the Nigeria Police Force begin the process of hiring 50,000 police constables.
The move, approved by President Bola Tinubu, has drawn wide attention because of its scale and timing.
According to the Commission, the police recruitment portal will open on Monday, 15 December 2025.
It will remain active until Sunday, 25 January 2026.
The timeline has also created urgency among young Nigerians hoping to join the security sector.
A statement released by Torty Njoku Kalu, the Head of Protocol and Public Affairs, explained that the entire process will be handled with full transparency.
He noted that the exercise would be conducted in the “most transparent, merit-based and credible manner.”
Moreover, the Commission stressed that “application is free as there will be no payment required at any stage of the process.”
In addition, the statement confirmed that applicants for general duty must hold GCE Ordinary Level, SSCE/NECO, WACE, or an equivalent result.
They must also present at least five credits, including English Language and Mathematics, across no more than two sittings.

Furthermore, specialist applicants must meet slightly different criteria.
They are expected to hold at least four credits including English and Mathematics, also in no more than two sittings.
The Commission added that three years of experience and relevant trade tests are required for those applying under specialist roles.
“Applicants must be Nigerian citizens by birth,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, the age requirement for general duty applicants falls between 18 and 25 years.
For specialist roles, the accepted range is 18 to 28 years.
The Commission also highlighted physical standards.
Therefore, candidates “not be less than 1.67m (male) and 1.64m (female) in height (for General Duty only).”
The Commission expects a large turnout, especially because many young Nigerians have waited for an opportunity of this size.
