NIDCOM Speaks on Evacuation Fears Amid Iran-Israel Conflict

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission has confirmed that citizens in Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Iran are making enquiries about possible evacuation.

Although panic has not been reported, uncertainty is spreading. However, officials say there are currently no formal distress calls from Nigerians in Iran.

The NIDCOM evacuation update was made public as global tensions intensified. According to the commission, “several Nigerians have reached out for guidance”, asking whether the Federal Government plans to evacuate citizens if the crisis worsens.

NIDCOM clarified that while enquiries have increased, no emergency alerts have been officially filed. Meanwhile, the agency acknowledged that any evacuation effort would face serious logistical challenges.

Flight restrictions remain in place in some affected areas. In addition, security concerns could delay immediate action. The commission explained that ongoing hostilities and suspended international flights may complicate evacuation plans. It stressed that “such operations would depend largely on improved security conditions”.

Furthermore, Nigerians abroad have been urged to remain calm. They were advised to stay indoors where necessary and avoid risky locations. Regular contact with Nigerian embassies has also been encouraged for timely updates and assistance.

The commission emphasized that the Federal Government remains committed to protecting Nigerians overseas. Therefore, contingency measures are being considered should the crisis escalate further.

This development comes at a sensitive time. The Middle East has witnessed growing instability, prompting several countries to review travel advisories. Consequently, Nigerians in Gulf nations are seeking reassurance about their safety and possible evacuation routes.

However, authorities have reiterated that there is no immediate cause for alarm. The NIDCOM evacuation update highlights a proactive approach rather than a confirmed emergency. Officials maintain that Nigeria’s diplomatic missions remain alert and responsive.

Meanwhile, embassies in affected countries are monitoring developments closely.
