The National Assembly has postponed the official resumption of plenary from Tuesday, September 23, 2025, to Tuesday, October 7, 2025.
The sudden adjustment was confirmed in a statement signed by the Clerk to the National Assembly, Kamoru Ogunlana, and made available to journalists in Abuja on Tuesday.
According to Ogunlana, the decision came at the directive of the presiding officers of both chambers of the federal legislature.
“I am directed by the presiding officers of both Chambers of the National Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to inform all members of the National Assembly and the general public that the resumption date of the National Assembly earlier scheduled for Tuesday, 23rd September, 2025, is postponed to Tuesday, 7th October, 2025,” the notice partly read.
The Clerk noted that while plenary has been rescheduled, standing and ad-hoc committees will continue their legislative engagements during the break.
“All Distinguished Senators and Honourable Members are requested to take note of the new date and adjust their schedules accordingly.
Any inconvenience caused by this rescheduling is deeply regretted,” Ogunlana added.
The federal legislature had adjourned for its annual recess on July 23, with lawmakers expected to reconvene on September 23 for the last quarter of legislative business for the year.
However, the new shift means lawmakers will now resume later than originally planned.
Moreover, several pending bills are expected to dominate the agenda once sessions resume.
Meanwhile, legislative committees are expected to use the period to advance ongoing investigations, policy reviews, and oversight activities.
This ensures that some level of legislative work continues despite the delay in plenary.
