Former Vice President Namadi Sambo has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), sparking widespread reactions across the political landscape.
Sambo, who served as Nigeria’s Vice President from 2010 to 2015 under President Goodluck Jonathan, is now the latest high-profile figure to join APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Before becoming Vice President, he also held the position of Governor of Kaduna State between 2007 and 2010.

Moreover, his defection raises critical questions about the strength and future of the PDP, especially with major figures gradually exiting the party.
Meanwhile, political analysts believe this move may influence the power dynamics in northern Nigeria, given Sambo’s influence in Kaduna and surrounding states.
Though Sambo has yet to release an official statement explaining his reasons, party insiders suggest the former Vice President has grown distant from PDP structures in recent years.
His alignment with APC, therefore, may be a calculated attempt to remain politically relevant as preparations for the 2027 race intensify.
