Afrobeats singer Mr Real openly criticised both artists and fans. His comments have sparked conversations about the role of entertainment during difficult times.
The Mr Real insecurity Nigeria music debate began after the singer shared a video expressing concern. He questioned why new songs are still being released despite the current situation.
According to him, the mood of the country has made it difficult for him to stay creative. However, he noted that others seem unaffected.
“I wake up to terrible news everyday. I am even scared to drop songs because of the terrible things happening in Nigeria. Artists who are releasing songs are trying because I don’t know the kind of mind they have. How do some artists do it?”
Moreover, he said the constant reports of violence have affected his mindset. As a result, his music plans have been put on hold. However, the singer did not stop at fellow musicians. He also criticised fans who continue to party and visit clubs.
He expressed concern that many people act as if nothing is happening. This, he said, reflects a deeper problem in society.
“This country is burning. People are dying. Some individuals have turned insecurity to business and we still go to club. That is the problem.”
Furthermore, he acknowledged that people have personal lives to live. Still, he insisted that the current situation should not be ignored.
“You can argue that you have your own life to life. I also can’t deny that I don’t club or enjoy my life. But can’t you see that it is not normal?”
Meanwhile, Mr Real questioned whether Nigerians have become too used to hardship. He suggested that people may be ignoring serious issues.
“It is like we are under a spell to be docile no matter how worse things get. Is it normal?”
In addition, the discussion has opened a wider debate within the entertainment industry. Artists are now being questioned about their responsibilities. However, others argue that music can serve as an escape during difficult times. Therefore, opinions remain divided.
