The Lagos State Police Command has arrested Wasiu Akinwande, popularly known as Olori Eso, one of the most feared hired killers in the state’s recent history.
His capture followed a covert tactical operation code-named “Silence, Speed and Surprise”, carried out at his hideout in Agbado, Ogun State.
Spokesperson of the Lagos State Police Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest in a statement released on Friday, June 21.
He revealed that the 44-year-old suspect has long been on the radar of law enforcement due to his alleged role in multiple high-profile killings across Lagos.
“This serial killer suspect is the most wanted suspect in Lagos history in recent time,” the police stated.

“His arrest marks a huge success in the ongoing fight against violent crimes that are threats to the security and safety of residents in Mushin and some other parts of Lagos State.”
During the raid, the Tactical Squad recovered an alarming cache of weapons and other suspicious items. These included:
- Two AK-47 rifles
- One K2 assault rifle
- One Red Ryder rifle
- Three pump-action rifles
- Two locally made pistols
- Five magazines
- 57 live cartridges
- 70 rounds of 5.56 ammunition
- 27 rounds of 9mm ammunition
- One expended 5.56 round
- A dagger
- Three walkie-talkies
- Nine international passports belonging to different individuals
Moreover, SP Hundeyin stressed that Akinwande’s activities have caused “trauma, horror, agony and pains in the families of victims of his numerous high-profile crimes under investigation by the Lagos State Police Command.”
In addition, the Commissioner of Police has instructed the Deputy Commissioner of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to lead a team of elite detectives in deepening the investigation.

This includes tracking down all accomplices linked to Akinwande and ensuring they are brought to justice.
Meanwhile, the public has been urged to stay vigilant and continue cooperating with security agencies to sustain the recent gains in crime fighting.
However, with the arrest of Olori Eso, the Lagos State Police Command has sent a clear message to criminal gangs that no one is beyond the law.
