Moments Pastor Adeboye Asked 10 Members for ₦1 Billion Each Sparks Reactions

Moments after predicting the exact day he would “go to the heavenly world,” Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has made an unusual appeal for massive financial contributions from his congregation.

In a viral video from a recent church service, the respected clergyman asked for at least 10 members willing to give him ₦1 billion each and another 100 members ready to donate ₦100 million each.

“I need at least 10 of my children who can give me at least one billion naira each and I need 100 of my children who can give me a hundred million naira each,” Pastor Adeboye stated during the service.

The Pastor Adeboye donation request quickly stirred intense discussions online.

Many Nigerians expressed shock at the amounts being requested, especially given the country’s economic challenges.

Some social media users accused the preacher of being out of touch with the realities of ordinary citizens. “So 10 people get 1 billion wey dem no dey use, 100 people get 100 million wey dem no dey use???? For this poverty-ridden country,” wrote one X user, @0xMaax.

Another commenter, @thebigdammy, noted: “Nigeria is the most religious country in the world and yet Nigeria is still the poverty capital of the world. What a nation .”

While some defended Adeboye, others suggested regulatory bodies should investigate the request. “EFCC suppose dan lock this man up,” tweeted @iamurbanaira, in reaction to the viral video.

Another user, @Entdaily001, questioned the authenticity of the clip, writing: “How can I send this to my uncle that always defend this man 😭😭😭 Abi this video na AI??”

Meanwhile, RCCG leadership has not issued an official statement clarifying the purpose of the requested funds.
