Malami’s Son Rearrested Moments After Bail Processing

The sudden rearrest of Abdulaziz Malami, son of former Attorney-General of the Federation Abubakar Malami.

The development came, just moments after bail procedures for his release had been fully completed at the Kuje Correctional Centre in Abuja.

According to multiple sources, Abdulaziz was re-arrested by security operatives on Friday, shortly after he was formally released to court bailiffs from the Federal High Court.

The bailiffs had arrived at the correctional facility with valid and complete bail documents.

However, the process was abruptly disrupted by renewed security intervention.

DailyTrust reports that security officials had been monitoring activities around the facility based on intelligence reports.

Consequently, Abdulaziz was taken back into custody almost immediately after stepping out of prison control.

The move has raised questions, especially given that the bail process had already been concluded.

A source familiar with the situation confirmed the dramatic sequence of events, saying, “He was released to the court bailiffs with fully processed bail papers but was immediately rearrested by security agents.”

The source added that the action caught both legal officers and prison officials off guard.

Meanwhile, Abdulaziz Malami is standing trial alongside his father, Abubakar Malami, and his mother, Asabe Malami, before Justice Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The case centres on alleged money laundering involving N8.7 billion. However, all parties have continued to deny wrongdoing as the trial progresses.

In addition, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission recently secured an interim forfeiture order on 57 landed properties allegedly linked to the Malami family.

The assets, valued at about N213.23 billion, are spread across Abuja, Kebbi, Kano, and Kaduna states. Some of the properties were also traced to Malami’s sons, including Abdulaziz and Abiru-Rahman, as well as his wife.

Moreover, the rearrest has deepened public debate around due process, judicial authority, and the balance of power between courts and security agencies.

Therefore, the Abdulaziz Malami rearrest has become a major talking point. As of press time, no official explanation had been issued by the security agencies involved.
