Lt. Gen. Jeremiah Useni Dies at 82

The former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Lt. Gen. Jeremiah Useni (retd.), has died at the age of 82.

Useni passed away on Thursday following a prolonged illness, leaving behind a legacy of selfless service and dedication to his country and community.

Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang officially announced the news in a statement by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere.

Mutfwang described Useni’s death as a significant loss not only to his family but also to the Nigerian Armed Forces, Plateau State, and the nation.

“The Executive Governor of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, deeply regrets to announce to the citizens of Plateau State and all patriotic Nigerians, the passing of the former minister,” the statement read.

In addition to his military career, Useni was praised for his contributions to public service and politics.

He held key positions, including Minister of Transport, Quarter-Master General of the Nigerian Army, and Minister of the FCT.

After his retirement from the military, Useni transitioned into politics and served as Deputy Chairman of the All Nigeria Peoples Party.

Moreover, in 2015, he was elected Senator representing Plateau South Senatorial District under the Peoples Democratic Party.

Governor Mutfwang emphasized the late general’s impact, noting his unwavering commitment to peace and security in northern Nigeria and Plateau State.

“On behalf of my family, the government, and the peace-loving people of Plateau State, I extend my deepest sympathies to the President, the Nigerian Armed Forces, the immediate family, and all those mourning the loss of this distinguished elder statesman,” he stated.

Useni’s compassion, generosity, and dedication left a lasting impression on those who knew him.

Governor Mutfwang commended his ability to inspire others through his life of service.

“His legacy of compassion, generosity, and dedication to the well-being of others will continue to inspire future generations,” the governor added.

As the community mourns this profound loss, they also send heartfelt condolences to Useni’s family and loved ones.
