“Leadership Is Not Entitlement” — Obi Reaffirms 4-Year Commitment

In a move that has surprised many Nigerians, Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has reaffirmed his commitment to serve only one term if elected.

Obi’s remarks, released in a public statement on social media, have generated widespread debate.

His call for 48 months of accountable leadership has been both praised and questioned by political observers.

He expressed disbelief that his simple offer to serve for just four years has become such a talking point.

“I still find it baffling that my decision to do a term of four years, if given the mandate to rule this country, is generating so much agitation,” he said.

Peter Obi stressed that his desire to lead is rooted in service, not personal ambition.

According to him, “What drives me is not personal ambition, but a deep, commitment to see Nigeria work. And if the sacrifice required of me is four years of sincere, accountable leadership, so be it.”

Obi pointed out that during his political journey, he has always stood for fair play.

He added, “I have never been involved in thuggery, the snatching of ballot boxes, or any form of electoral malpractice,”.

He challenged anyone to prove otherwise, saying no stain of election violence has ever been linked to his name.

According to Obi, 48 months are enough to begin fixing the country.
“By this feeling, we are doubting the fact that a sincere leader can achieve much in 48 months,” he argued.

Obi criticized government spending on luxuries like new presidential jets while essential sectors remain underfunded.

“The trillions used to acquire new presidential jets and other unnecessary expenses could have been channelled into education, healthcare, or infrastructure,” he explained.

He also emphasized that leadership should not be about entitlement but about sincere service. “Leadership, to me, is not about entitlement. It is about service,” he said.

Obi promised that if given the opportunity, every day of his four-year term would be dedicated to building a better Nigeria.
