Lagos State has taken a major step towards becoming Africa’s creative and technological hub with the signing of a $4.5 billion joint venture agreement between Singapore’s TSC Global and Nigeria’s Del-York Group.
The deal, one of the largest single investments in Africa’s creative sector, will establish Lagos Film City (Kebulania), a world-class ecosystem set to transform Nigeria’s creative economy.
The landmark signing ceremony, held in Singapore, was attended virtually by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who expressed excitement about the project’s potential to redefine Africa’s position in the global creative industry.
Sanwo-Olu stated, “Lagos Film City (Kebulania) represents Lagos State’s vision for creative excellence and technological innovation. This investment will transform our creative landscape while creating groundbreaking opportunities for our talented youth.”
Architectural designs for the ambitious project will begin in the first quarter of 2025, with construction expected to follow by late Q2.
The development will feature cutting-edge virtual production studios, training centers, residential areas, and recreational facilities.
According to estimates, it will generate over 10,000 direct creative and technical jobs, more than 25,000 indirect jobs, and a $3.5 billion annual boost to Nigeria’s creative economy.
CEO of TSC Global, Michael Dickerson, emphasized the significance of the partnership, describing it as a bridge between Africa and the world.
He said, “Our $4.5B joint venture bridges Africa and the world, creating unparalleled opportunities for creative and technological collaboration between continents.”
Similarly, Linus Idahosa, CEO of Del-York Group, called the project a “testament to what is possible when visionary leadership creates an enabling environment for transformative investments.”
In addition to its economic benefits, the project will focus on sustainability, incorporating 40% renewable energy, advanced water recycling systems, biodiversity preservation, and smart city technology.
Lagos Film City is expected to become a global destination for creativity and innovation, offering a platform for international collaborations and co-productions.
However, with this development, Nigeria is poised to claim a prominent spot in the global creative industry.
