In a shocking twist during a routine police search in Lagos, officers discovered a semi-automatic pistol hidden in a woman’s handbag.
The incident, which occurred in the Ipaja area, quickly escalated when the woman claimed the gun belonged to her husband.
He was later arrested and is now in police custody. The Lagos State Police Command confirmed the arrest on Monday through its spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin.
He explained that the firearm was uncovered during a routine stop and search operation conducted by officers from the Ipaja Division.
“During a quick inspection of the handbags belonging to two women, a semi-automatic pistol was found in one of them,” CSP Hundeyin stated.
According to the report, the woman did not deny the gun was in her possession but promptly told the officers that it belonged to her husband.

She led the team to him, and he was immediately arrested at the location.
The arrest has since drawn attention to the importance of routine security checks.
It also highlights the danger of illegal firearms making their way into civilian spaces.
While speaking to reporters, CSP Hundeyin emphasized that the police acted quickly to prevent what could have been a more dangerous outcome.
“The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation,” he said.
Moreover, this incident serves as a reminder that public safety remains a top priority for the Lagos State Police Command.
The force also used the opportunity to urge the public to support law enforcement efforts aimed at keeping communities safe.
“This arrest marks the removal of another illegal weapon from the streets,” CSP Hundeyin added.
Furthermore, police authorities have called on residents to report any suspicious activity around them.
“Residents should see the police as partners in ensuring a safer society,” CSP Hundeyin said.
