Afrobeats singer Iyanya has landed in the middle of fan outrage once again after misspelling “Morayo,” the title of Wizkid’s tribute album to his late mother, in what fans have described as a careless and disrespectful act.
The backlash erupted after an X user accused the Kukere hitmaker of switching allegiance from Wizkid to Davido, fuelling the long-standing rivalry between the two music icons.
Iyanya quickly responded, attempting to prove that he maintains equal respect for both artists and regularly listens to their songs.
“I played Wizkid’s Made in Lagos and Maroya, the same way I play every other artiste songs,” Iyanya wrote in a post meant to defend his stance.
However, his misspelling of Morayo as “Maroya” did not go unnoticed, and fans were quick to pounce.
One user, @Gwan_123, mocked the error, writing, “Maroya 😭😂😂😂😂 you go just know say na on mute e play am.”
Another user, @Rozaycharm_, added, “Shey you know say you don unknowingly drop new banter material for 30Bingos?😭.”
@The_Good went further to condemn the mistake, saying, “Imagine you turn Big Wiz late lovely mum name Morayo to Maroya… you clearly know what you are doing, God go punish you.”
Although Iyanya later corrected the error by quoting his original post and spelling the album title correctly as Morayo, the damage had already been done.
The online buzz continued with fans accusing him of insincerity.
This situation has sparked deeper conversations about loyalty in the Afrobeats scene, where artists’ affiliations often draw intense fan scrutiny.
While Iyanya may have meant no harm, the public expects artists, especially seasoned ones, to tread carefully in emotionally charged matters especially when it involves someone’s late parent.

Although Iyanya has tried to clarify his position, some believe the singer has not done enough to win back trust from Wizkid’s fan base.
