The leadership structure of the Nigeria Police Force has taken a new turn after the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, decorated several newly promoted Deputy Inspectors-General of Police.
The development came as the police boss urged the senior officers to strengthen intelligence-led operations across the country.
The decoration ceremony, held on Monday, placed the promoted officers in key leadership roles within the Force. Moreover, the event highlighted the growing need for strategic policing as Nigeria continues to face complex security challenges.
Speaking during the ceremony, Disu reminded the officers that their new positions carry heavy responsibilities. He stressed that their leadership would influence the performance and public perception of the Force.
“Your leadership must inspire confidence within the Force and trust among the citizens we are sworn to protect. Let your tenure at this level be defined by discipline, fairness, transparency and service,” the IGP said.
The officers who were decorated include Zachariah Fera Achinyan, Zango Ibrahim Baba, Isyaku Mohammed, Margaret Agebe Ochalla, Mohammed Abdul Sulaiman, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie and Umar Shehu Nadada. Meanwhile, another officer, Fayoade Adegoke, had been decorated a week earlier.
According to the police chief, promotion to the rank of Deputy Inspector-General represents one of the highest professional recognitions within the Nigeria Police Force. Consequently, officers who reach this level are expected to show courage, integrity and commitment to justice.

Furthermore, Disu explained that the new leaders must help strengthen internal discipline across commands. They were also encouraged to guide ongoing reforms aimed at improving the performance of the Force.
“As members of the top strategic leadership of the Nigeria Police Force, you are entrusted with responsibilities that go beyond operational command. You must ensure our policing strategies remain responsive to the evolving security landscape,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Police Force leadership continues to face changing security threats across the country. These include organised crime, cyber-related offences and violent criminal networks.
Therefore, the IGP emphasised the need for stronger intelligence-led policing. He also called for deeper cooperation between security agencies to tackle modern threats more effectively.
Moreover, the police boss urged the officers to remain professional while carrying out their duties. He said accountability must remain a key value as the Force works to build public trust.
Disu also revealed that the police leadership is focusing on technology-driven policing strategies. In addition, he said the institution is working toward becoming more responsive to citizens.
During the event, the IGP expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for supporting efforts to strengthen the operational capacity of the Nigeria Police Force. He also commended the Police Service Commission for ensuring transparency in the promotion process.
