A major Benue Easter security deployment has been ordered by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu.
The large-scale reinforcement comes just days before the 2026 Easter celebrations, raising fresh concerns about safety across the state.
According to officials, 14 units drawn from 16 Police Mobile Force squadrons have been deployed.
Moreover, 250 personnel from specialised tactical teams have also been sent to strengthen security operations.
The deployment is designed to cover critical areas across Benue State. These include rural communities, busy public spaces, and locations considered vulnerable.
Furthermore, the new personnel have been integrated with existing tactical teams. They are also working alongside other security agencies to improve coordination and response.
This approach is expected to enhance visibility and deter criminal activities. Meanwhile, patrols are set to be intensified across major routes and communities.
In a statement released by DSP Udeme Edet, the move was described as a proactive step to ensure public safety.

In addition, the Commissioner of Police in Benue, CP Ifeanyi Emenari, praised the decision.
He assured residents that security agencies are fully prepared to maintain peace before, during, and after the celebrations.
Residents have been urged to remain alert and law-abiding throughout the period. However, authorities stressed that security is a shared responsibility.
Citizens are encouraged to report suspicious activities without delay. Emergency lines have also been provided to ensure quick communication.
